A suspect has been charged and is due in court after a man was killed and another injured in South Lanarkshire.

Emergency crews received a report of two men seriously injured within the Burnbank Centre area of Hamilton at about 3.50pm on Monday.

William Copeland, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene while a 59-year-old man was taken by ambulance to hospital.

A 56-year-old man was arrested amid a murder investigation and has now been charged in connection with Mr Copeland's death and the alleged attempted murder.

The suspect is due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court later on Wednesday.

Police Scotland said a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Road closures were put in place on Whitehill Road and Purdie Street and access was restricted to shops in the area, but that has now been lifted.

"Anyone with concerns is asked to speak to these officers."
