Have you received a text from a friend telling you they've had the 'strangest dream'? Don't be fooled – it's all part of a new viral trend which is sweeping the internet...

It doesn't take too long for the internet to find a new trend – and this time it includes Matthew Wilder's hit song 'Break My Stride'.

People across the world are texting friends, family and partners the lyrics to Wilder's tune in this viral trend.

But they're trying to trick the other person into believing it's a normal conversation – before they realise it's actually song lyrics.

Here are some our favourites attempts, including a woman tricking her husband, a mum who wasn't being fooled and a girlfriend who's clearly never heard the song before – watch them below.

Starting with the opening line of Wilder's tune, "Last night I had the strangest dream", most people think it's an ordinary text – as I'm sure most of us would.

It's usually the next two lines of the song, "I sailed away to China" and "In a little row boat to find ya" which leads people to question something isn't right.

By "And you said you had to get your laundry cleaned" most people seem to have sussed what's going on.

The people who fall the hardest are those who are obviously not well acquainted with the hit song – which we do find pretty hard to believe.

The trend started on Tik Tok, the video-sharing social media platform which is taking over the internet, and now it seems everyone is trying to trick their phone contacts.

Who is Matthew Wilder and has he reacted to the meme?

Matthew Wilder is an American singer and record producer. In early 1984, his single 'Break My Stride' was a top 10 hit across the world, including the US and UK.

After his solo career, he worked as a record producer, working with artists such as No Doubt, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, and Miley Cyrus.

In the Disney film Mulan, Matthew lent his singing voice to the character of Ling, and has continued to work in music and theatre.
