The Gardeners' World presenter said his beloved pup had 'speared her throat' with a stick, but is now recuperating well.
Monty Don's golden retriever Nellie has had a close brush with death after chasing a stick which "speared" the dog's throat in a freak accident.
The presenter shared the heartbreaking news on Twitter earlier this week, telling followers of Nellie's "near miss" as the stick missed two of her arteries by millimetres.
"Thanks to our brilliant vet, working at night, she is fine – if very sorry for herself," he said, but warned: "please DONT THROW STICKS FOR DOGS."
The Gardeners' World presenter gave followers an update of Nellie's condition following the accident yesterday (August 11).
He tweeted: "Nell is recuperating well – taking it easy – no filming – but is going to be fine."
It was only in May that Don's golden retriever Nigel sadly passed away after he was "suddenly taken ill with violent, unstoppable seizures".
"He slipped quietly away," Monty said.
The 11-year-old pooch became a surprise star after appearing on Gardeners' World alongside his owner.
Nigel even received his own fan mail and social media fan accounts.
