The two stars first met on the set of Grease back in 1978, and a lifelong friendship was born.
Shortly after Olivia's death, John also posted a tribute on his main Instagram page, while mourning her passing.
He wrote at the time: "My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much.
"We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the moment I saw you and forever. Your Danny, your John!"
After Grease, John and Olivia reunited five years later to work on the 1983 film Two Of A Kind. The pair also released a Christmas duet album together in 2012.
Olivia was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, which she successfully fought. She was diagnosed again in 2013, which she also recovered from. However, in 2017, the cancer returned and resulted in a stage four diagnosis.
John's wife, Kelly Preston, also passed away from a battle with breast cancer in 2020.
